Trevor Clarkson

Head Instructor

trevor_bio_150823Martial Arts Transfer Technician / Writer / Sensei / Educated Risk Taker

Trevor Clarkson, with mouth closed and mind open has traveled with gypsy like zeal to find unique teachers, guides, and mentors in a wide variety of fields for the past 30 years.

Trevor founded the Creative Fighters Guild in 1988 as a white-space where great grapplers, weapons players, boxers, kick-boxer’s and a variety of speakers and teachers could merge in one place to share ideas, training methods, philosophies and techniques. This resulted in the vaulting of massive amounts of training time, exploration and absorption of all that was being presented for the next generation.

Trevor was introduced to Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in 1992, two years before the first UFC. With this little bit of inside knowledge of Jiu-Jitsu Trevor was able to win a few friendly wagers when everybody bet against the skinny grappler Royce Gracie in UFC 1 (and everybody knows how that turned out). Trevor received his Black Belt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu from the Blackest of Black Belts the Legend Megaton Diaz in 2005. Trevor was assigned the role of Western Canadian regional director of Paul Vunaks Progressive Fighting Systems and received his Senior Full Instructor ranking from Paul Vunak in Bruce Lees Jeet Kune Do Concepts & Filipino Martial Arts in 1996.

Bare Bones and Brilliant has been used to describe what Trevor has been left with after constantly hacking away at the unessential for the past three decades. Trevor uses a wide variety of metaphors, stories, analogies and humor, along with proven techniques and training methods to assure everyone present has maximum absorption of the knowledge and materials being offered. Someone once remarked this could be the best kept secret in the martial arts trade to which Sensei replied “Some secrets ache to be shared …. losing nothing in their telling, and offering everything in their hearing”

In 2011 he is planning to travel to Brazil to train and compete. Scott strives for continued improvement and feels he can learn something from everyone. Always the teacher Scott is eager to help other students improve their games, as he knows as their games improve so too will his.

“Choosing to pursue martial arts, particularly Gracie Jiu-Jitsu with Trevor, has been one of the best things I’ve ever done. I’ve made some great friends and found a great sport/activity that embodies a healthy lifestyle.”
